Eco-Living: Bedroom Essentials For Mindful Living

A calming bedroom is essential in bringing mindfulness to the home as it makes us feel at peace; boosting productivity in other parts of our lives.

Our bedrooms are one of our most sacred downtime spaces, yet they’re often overlooked and not conducive to relaxation or a good night’s sleep. If you’re eager to get away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house, prioritise your bedroom as your main point of escape and make sure it has a few key items with serenity in mind.

Speaker

Immersing yourself in calming music, guided meditations, or nature sounds can help create a tranquil environment. Upgrade to a good speaker so you can be playing something in the bedroom and be able to leave your laptop or phone in another room.

Ceramic Match Striker

Appreciate the simple pleasure of lighting a candle or incense with a locally made ceramic match striker. Mine is from Etsy, there are so many lovely choices.

Eye Mask

An eye mask blocks light, promotes relaxation, and supports the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle, leading to improved sleep quality and duration. I like the simple Alaska Bear silk mask, and I’ve heard great things about Drowsy.

Journal

Journaling provides a space for self-reflection, gratitude practices, and mindfulness exercises. I love the Moleskine soft cover lined journal for stream of consciousness writing, and the Best Self Journal for a more structured goal-setting daily planner.

Diffuser

Diffusers disperse essential oils into the air, harnessing their therapeutic properties. You can search around to find a shape you like best. I have the white ceramic from Saje, if you’re UK based, NEOM and The White Company have some nice options.

Alarm Clock

Investing in an alarm clock is good for anyone wanting to keep their phone out of the bedroom but still have regular wake-up times. I recommend the Loftie. If you want a sunrise wake up, you can pair it with their lamp, or alternatively, Hatch, Lumie and Phillips all have great sunrise alarm clocks (two-in-one!).

Essential Oils

Add essential oils to your diffuser. Different oils offer different benefits, such as relaxation, stress reduction, improved mood, and mental clarity. This practice, known as aromatherapy, has been used for centuries to promote overall well-being. I love oil blends, my favourites are from Saje and Tisserand.

Vibrator

While traditionally associated with pleasure, a vibrator can also be used as a tool for mindfulness through practices like sensual meditation or mindful self-pleasure. Vibrators have come along way over the years, choose eco-friendly and wellness brands first such as Maude or Dame.

Maude: Sexual Wellness Essentials

Maude is on a mission to make intimacy better- for all people. I’m such a huge advocate of this company and have so many of their products.‘We see intimacy as holistic, and create safe, useful product for your ever day life. Our products are simple and support you in daily moments of body care, in taking supplements, and in all of the rituals you participate in to feel in the mood. Showering with a nourishing body wash might make you feel close with yourself, burning a candle made with oil that will hydrate your skin can make you feel relaxed, using sex essentials that are consistent and designed with people in mind takes the guesswork out of intimacy.’

Incense and Ceramic Holder

The soothing aroma of incense can help relax, focus and enhance mindfulness practices like meditation or yoga. I favour a ceramic holder, and one that collects the ash for an easy clean up.

Yoga Mat

Whenever I roll my mat out, I find my way back to myself. Yoga is such a powerful mindfulness practice to have and the health benefits are indisputable. Common acupressure mat benefits include relief from muscle pain, headaches, and stress, as well as deeper sleep, increased energy, and better circulation. It’s perfect after a long day at work or before heading to bed.

Non-Toxic Candle

Candles are a nice focal point for meditation, a soft glow for a yin practice, or just lighting one as a relaxation ritual in the evenings. Check out my guide for choosing a non-toxic candle.

Plants and Greenery

Plants in the bedroom can absorb harmful air toxins through the pores in their leaves, filtering and cleaning the air you breathe every day. A study has concluded that having indoor plants can help reduce stress and lower blood pressure and if that’s not enough, adding something organic can soften and balance your living space.

Himalayan Salt Lamp

Salt lamps can create a relaxing and calming atmosphere with their warm and gentle light, which can help you unwind and release tension. Salt lamps can also emit negative ions, which are believed to boost your mood and energy levels. I love the soft red glow in the evenings to practice yoga with, or read my book.
